Camping near Whipsnade Zoo

Wake up five minutes from the animals, on a peaceful working farm in the Chiltern Hills.

If a family day out at Whipsnade Zoo is on the cards, there is nowhere handier to pitch up than New Green End Farm. We are a proper back-to-basics campsite on a working farm in the Chiltern Hills, and the zoo is just five minutes away by car, or around a 30-minute walk across the fields.

The closest campsite to Whipsnade Zoo

Whipsnade is one of the largest zoos in Europe, home to lions, rhinos, elephants and its famous chalk lion carved into the hillside. It is an easy full day out, and staying just up the road means you can be at the gates when they open, beat the queues, and head back to a quiet pitch when little legs have had enough. No long drive home in the dark, just a short hop back to the farm.

Make a weekend of it

Turn a day trip into a proper getaway. Spend the morning with the animals, then come back to open fields, campfires and big Chiltern skies. Dogs are welcome, up to three per pitch, so the whole family can come along. In the evening you can toast marshmallows over a fire pit and watch the red kites wheel overhead.

Where to stay

Choose from non-electric grass tent pitches for back-to-basics camping, electric pitches for motorhomes and campervans, or a ready-pitched bell tent if you would rather someone else did the pitching. You can park right beside your pitch, and there are toilets, hot showers, drinking water and a shared camp kitchen with a fridge and freezer on site.
